Everything will be unveiled Oct 5 at the INTERMOT in Cologne in 2010 but, as often happens, some parts of the network had “the cracks” and something always leaks out with a little ‘in advance. Also this time the first images in low quality of the new BMW K1600 GT / GTL come from across the Channel, more precisely from MCN.
With an engine derived from the Concept 6 presented at EICMA 2009, the new K1600 certainly does not hide its size important – but not huge – even if, as often occurs with BMW, the overall balance is likely to be exemplary. It is not a boxer, it is true, but the six-cylinder German seems positioned very low, so as to provide a center of gravity and a riding position very manageable.
The engine remains the six capable of 160 hp at 7,500 rpm and 175 Nm of torque, with a weight of 102.6 kg held by the House and a width of 560 mm (data refer to engine only). The chapter is very broad and Electronics, including the equipment of the new K, we find: E-Gas electronic throttle, three riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic), Integral ABS and traction control DTC. Absolutely new to the debut of a motorcycle is the ‘Adaptive Light Control (optional) which, in combination with standard Xenon headlamps, improves safety when driving at night, tilting the beam depending on the angle of bend.
