BMW Concept C at EICMA 2010

In a cityscape that changes from day to day, increasingly congested metropolis traffic, the two wheels are becoming increasingly important, and that is why the BMW Motorrad EICMA 2010 has declared its intentions to expand its range of motion by supplementing it with a line of scooters. The first two products, it will be two innovative scooter “premium” equipped with an internal combustion engine, capable of meeting the needs of a very broad target group. As a result, BMW is already thinking about alternative forms of propulsion, addressing the electricity sector, and Mini E-Scooter Concept seen at Intermot in Paris and it is the witness. The arrival of BMW Maxi Scooter is scheduled for next year, And the House of Monaco presented at EICMA a prototype which immediately clarifies the philosophy behind the project. The Helix scooters with the brand will be clearly a cross between a motorcycle and a traditional scooter, and is not a case if the Honda Milan has shown a concept with similar characteristics.

The Concept C, Where the letter C stands for “Commuter”, Has a design that certainly resembles the style of typical Bavarian bikes, including the S 1000 RR, and stands out clearly from what BMW has done in the past in the scooter segment. The technical solutions BMW wants to enter into this scooter are very original: the headlights are replaced by traditional LED headlamp integrated into the hull. The mirrors have been replaced by two integrated cameras in the queue, whose images are reproduced on two LCD screens inserted into the dashboard. The technical layout of Concept C provides a trellis frame in steel tube with front suspension Marzocchi upside-down clearly drawn from a supersport bike. The rear is made of a single arm that integrates transmission and acting on a shock tilted forward, which is also a clearly super. Both wheels are 17-inch brake system with a bear three disks large diameter braked by grippers ISR billet six pistons each. Not missing, of course, a plant ABS last generation.

The engine that drives the Concept C is a new parallel twin with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). It was not sent out any data, if not the fact that it is a parallel twin. We can only assume the displacement, which could settle on the value most in vogue at the moment, and then 800 cc, Which would take advantage, in addition, some economies of scale with other engines already in production.
We await further news from BMW, as surely in the coming months we will be back soon to talk about this scooter.
